Policies & FAQ

Below is a list of the most frequently asked questions related to our company. If you need further assistance, feel free to contact us at customersupport@alternativebaking.com

Is there an expiration date on the cookies?

There is a Best Buy Date printed on the wrapper. Our cookies do not contain preservatives. Unrefrigerated, their shelf life is 12 weeks. Refrigerated, they can last up to 4 months.

Are your cookies really completely vegan?

Each one of our cookies is guaranteed to be be 100% vegan. We never use dairy, eggs, hydrogenated oils, or artificial ingredients.

Are there any soy products in the cookies?

Our facility has been soy free since August 2011. All of our cookies, original and gluten free, are free of soy.

Are your cookies sugar free?

They are not sugar free. Diabetics should take caution when consuming our cookies. However, the organic unrefined cane sugar that we use has more nutritional value than processed sugars, and is less damaging to the environment and our health because it does not go through refining processes.

What is in the fruit juice that you use?

The fruit juice we use in our cookies is a patented product. There is certain info that is not disclosed to us from our supplier. What we do know is it is vegan, Kosher and Pareve, GMO-free, gluten-free, corn-free, soy-free, contains no citrus fruits, and may contain apple and pear.

What are natural grain dextrins? What is in them?

Dextrins are derived from starches that are also derived from grains. They are used to thicken products. In the case of our cookies, they are used to thicken the fruit juice in the patented product we use.

The company that we purchase this item from does not share the details of their ingredients because it is proprietary. What we do have is their allergen information for the item. It states that the item is free from gluten from the following grains and grasses: amaranth, barley, buckwheat, corn, kamut, millet, oats, quinoa, rye, spelt, triticale, and wheat.

What kind of baking powder do you use?

We use aluminum-free baking powder in all our cookies. It also contains corn, which is GMO-free.

Will my cookies be fresh when they arrive at my door?

YES! We only keep a small supply of cookies on-hand, so they always ship out extremely fresh. Depending on your region, your order should arrive at your home within 10-14 business days so that when you bite down, fresh goodness is all you can taste.

How long will it take my order to get to me?

We send out orders daily! We ship Mondays – Fridays only, except on holidays. Our facility is closed on the weekends. Please allow us 5-7 business days to process your order. Shipping in the continental US is entirely through FedEx ground mail, which estimates shipping times of 10-14 business days.

Do you ship to Hawaii and Alaska?

We do. However, these orders must be shipped through FedEx air mail rather than standard ground mail, so there will be an added cost for this specialty shipping.

Can you ship to countries outside of the US?

Unfortunately, at this time we ship only to the United States. The only thing we might suggest is if you have a friend here in the States that would be willing to order. We could ship to them, and then you could arrange amongst yourselves the shipping involved in getting them to your country. We do hope that one day we will be able to ship worldwide. We need to make sure we can get fresh, unbroken cookies to travel that far, all while keeping shipping costs down.

Where can I find the cookies in stores?

If you are a consumer who would like to buy cookies individually from a store, please send us an email with your city or nearby cities and we will locate stores near you, or call us at 916-364-4920.

Gluten Free Policy

We are very proud of all our employees and their diligence to keep our facility and this line of cookies free of gluten. We hope you enjoy!

The health and safety of our customers is our first priority. We are a small company and unable to have a second dedicated facility, but we carefully designed a plan to eliminate the risk of cross contamination. We know and understand the importance of producing a product free of gluten. We are very careful about buying ingredients from responsible sources for all of our products. We are being diligent to be sure that ingredients are not pre-contaminated with gluten.

We do not produce our gluten-free cookies on the same day as our other cookies. The night before production, we clean and sanitize all of the equipment in the facility. We have a dedicated mixer and wrapping machine that are used only for the gluten-free cookies. The next morning before we start mixing, we test all of our equipment and bowls for any gluten. If we pass, then we proceed with mixing. If we fail, we clean everything again and retest for gluten.

We keep all of the bowls, measuring devices, utensils, and small equipment in a large enclosed storage bin so there is no cross contamination. Our gluten free ingredients are stored separately from any item containing gluten. We also pack and ship our gluten-free cookies separate from our other line of cookies. The FDA’s current standard for “gluten-free” is less than 20 ppm (parts per million) gluten. All of our gluten-free flavors have always tested at less than 5 ppm, the lowest measurable level.
